Your way around
Walk with WASD, look with the mouse, and run with Shift. Space jumps. Jump toward the railing to clear it. Stairs connect neighboring floors. Enter onto the flat landing, climb the first flight, turn on the far landing, and climb the return flight. Sound and volume controls are in the pause menu.
The shelves
Aim at any spine within arm’s reach and press E or click. Turn pages with A / D, arrow keys, or buttons. Zoom to inspect the type. Press E again to return the book to its shelf. The library stays visible while you read.
The living quarters
Doorways lead to seven-bed dormitories, with attached bathrooms. Clocks, drinking fountains, food kiosks, and a submission slot repeat along the galleries. Press E near them.
The chasm
Floors extend above and below sight. You can jump over the rail and fall as long as you wish. Press R to return to a nearby gallery.
Adaptation notes & sources
This independent interpretation follows the novella’s facing galleries, 100-foot gap, 12-foot passages, brown-red pipe rails, gray carpet, rooms and book format. Furnishings, floor height, lighting, stairs and distances between some facilities are interpreted. No bridges or Borges-style hexagonal rooms have been added.
The apparent expanse is streamed around you. Book pages are repeatable procedural samples of the 95-character alphabet, not an exhaustive enumeration of every possible volume. There is no scripted winning book. Recovery, time, and controls are conveniences for exploration.
